I think this article was very interesting and informative. It's important to allow people to choose what their pronouns are based on their identity. I've been seeing a lot of criticism online when it comes to respecting peoples pronouns which I just don't understand. It's very simple to just refer to somebody with their respective pronouns. I agree with the above comments in saying that it's super disrespectful to purposely disregard someones pronouns. It takes a lot of strength and vulnerability to come to terms with your identity and when people feel comfortable enough to make their pronouns known, others should simply respect it.
This article was definitely informative about the different ways one can identify themselves as. It was interesting, and I feel like more people should be educating themselves on topics like these. Something that frustrates me in society is when a person doesn't understand someone else's pronouns, so they refuse to use it. It's one of the worst forms of disrespect out there in our world currently. If someone chooses to identify themselves as something they prefer, why are we racking our brains on why they're doing that? Wouldn't we spend less time just respecting their pronouns even if we don't understand it? Something else that was really frustrating from the article is when people make jokes about their own pronouns just to get a laugh out of it. These are people's actual identities that they've struggled to come to term with, and I think it's so toxic when others make jokes out of that. It enables the notion that the idea of establishing preferred pronouns is a simple joke, and that's not okay.
I am a woman and my pronouns are she, her, herself. Everyone should have a pronoun and everyone should have the right to choose their own pronoun! The article talked about a survey among 40000 LGBTQ people and the result was shocking. Only 5% among them have chosen their pronouns but the others accepted the pronouns given by the society. It clarifies how these people still don’t have their rights to choose their own pronouns(identity). It needs to be changed!! And to do so, these people need to raise their voice!!
