The Black population of the United States is diverse. Its members have varied histories in the nation – many are descendants of enslaved people, while others are recently arrived immigrants. The Black population also has nuanced ethnic and racial identities reflecting intermarriage and international migration. As a result, there are key distinctions in demographic and economic characteristics between different parts of the national Black population, highlighting its diverse multitude of backgrounds.

Black diversity is not something I thought about until reading this article. Being black is no longer as simple as people would once make it. I feel that this diversity has made it even more difficult to contain the black community. People are now forced to see that there's so much more to being black. With that being said there are also so many different types of discriminations within this diverse community that needs attention. It's no longer just black people as a whole, its black people as a whole plus the different diverse groups that we find within this general community of people.
It is great to see the black population diversifying from solely being the predecessors of slaves to new immigrants. All the different types of Black people help form the culture and each should be celebrated. While now every 1 in 4 Gen Z identifies as black it is important that we treat everyone with respect and understanding. The larger black populations are in the South so it's not surprising to see that Southern lawmakers are making it harder for black people to vote in places like Georgia. The black population might not be the minority position anymore, everyday members of the black population are still treated that way through police brutality and racial profiling. While the black population is growing there still are ongoing issues like racism going on in this country. With a growing black population it is important to realize that problems that affect the black community affect everyone.
I find it interesting to know that the Black population in America has begun to become more diverse. I personally find the Black population to no longer be solely a minority in some aspects. As the article mentioned 1 in 4 Black individual who identify as Black are GenZ. Being apart of the GenZ generation is something I have recognized as very pivotal because we as a generation have been able to use our voices for some many human rights ordeals and created change. For example, the Black Lives Matter Movement, so many youth have become involved in the right way and not just Black youth but other minorities coming together. I find it really fascinating to see how diverse the Black population is becoming across the nation. I feel as years progress the diversity within the Black population can be very beneficial.
